Here You Come Again

Who hasn’t wished that their favourite artist could magically appear while listening to their music? Here You Come Again, currently touring the UK and playing its final stop at the New Wimbledon Theatre, brings this fantasy to life in a heartwarming, entertaining musical that celebrates Dolly Parton’s music and wisdom.
Rather than a biographical retelling of Parton’s life, the musical follows Kevin, a devoted Dolly fan who, at a personal low during the Covid pandemic, conjures Dolly herself straight from the poster on his bedroom wall. Through her music and signature wit, she guides him through his struggles, offering both comfort and tough love.
Steven Webb delivers a charismatic and deeply engaging performance as Kevin, balancing humour with vulnerability. His strong vocal performance and natural stage presence make him a compelling lead. Opposite him, Tricia Paoluccio is outstanding as Dolly Parton, embodying her charm, wisdom, and unmistakable voice with an impressive level of authenticity. She simply shines as Dolly, capturing both her larger-than-life presence and her deeply human persona. The ensemble cast and on-stage band were a lively and talented addition, adding extra depth to the production.
The musical’s warmth, humour, and heartfelt performances make it a joyful and uplifting experience. Unexpected fourth-wall breaks enhance the audience’s connection to the story, adding an immersive quality that keeps the momentum lively—especially given the minimal cast. However, at times, the British audience seemed unsure whether they were meant to participate, leading to moments of hesitation.
Here You Come Again is more than a celebration of Dolly Parton’s music; it is a heartfelt exploration of confidence, self-acceptance, and the power of music to heal. Entering the theatre as a Dolly fan is not a prerequisite—but by the time the final note fades, it’s impossible not to leave the theatre wishing Dolly was your guardian angel. It's a cute, camp, countryfied night out!
